The future Institut pour la photographie des Hauts-de-France will be based in Lille, situated at the crossroads of the great European road, rail and maritime itineraries with Belgium, the United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands. Located at 7 – 11 rue de Thionville, a 15-minute walk from the Lille Europe and Lille Flandres railway stations, it will benefit from privileged access, ensuring its visibility at a local, national and international level. This location, in the lively and touristic neighbourhood of Vieux-Lille enables the Institut pour la photographie to be anchored in the exceptionally dynamic and cultural local scene.
This site, measuring over 3 600 m2, allows for all activities to be accommodated: exhibition and conservation areas of 1 500 m2, public indoor and outdoor reception areas including a cafe / restaurant, a bookshop, teaching spaces and a library. Its present layout offers strong growth potential for the architectural project supported by the Region, being the principal contractor for the operation. This layout enables the anticipation of demolitions, new constructions and restoration, enhancing the historic building and its outdoor spaces. Inauguration of the new operational site is planned for the end of 2020 / beginning of 2021.
