Bingo-Photo-Râteau

The Institute for Photography is organizing Bingo-Photo-Râteau events conceived by Cécile Hupin and Katherine Longly in the playful spirit of the Just My Luck exhibition. These events promise moments of conviviality and laughter, punctuated by photographs and incredible anecdotes.

Following on from their exhibition Just My Luck, presented at the Théâtre du Nord from February 21 to July 5, 2025, the Institut pour la photographie invited Belgian artists Cécile Hupin and Katherine Longly to devise a participatory project with regulars and owners of various PMU bars for Fiesta, the seventh edition of lille3000. This unique project is in line with the work that the artists have been doing for several years on our relationship with luck and money.

Starting in September 2024, Cécile Hupin and Katherine Longly met with numerous bar patrons and owners in the Lille metropolitan area.
They exchanged stories, anecdotes, and confidences, discussed, and, above all, photographed the 75 bingo numbers together, creating a playful visual lexicon of PMUs.

In the four bingo-photo-râteau hosted by the two artists in June and September 2025, these photographs occupy a very special place. Far from winning you the car or villa of your dreams, these offbeat bingo games, which resemble performances, invoke luck and misfortune only to highlight conviviality, sharing, laughter, and a game free of any stakes!

The first Bingo-Photo-Râteau took place on June 19 at the Théâtre du Nord, and the next three will be held in La Madeleine, Wasquehal, and Lille.
